The McKenzie Method
The McKenzie Method is a comprehensive approach to the treating the spine. It uses a system of mechanical evaluations and treatments, which is are highly effective in the treatment of many neck and back problems. Many difficult diagnoses that the McKenzie Method is successful in treating quickly and effectively is sciatica, stenosis, disc herniations with and without limb pain, as well as many others.
This unique method to assess and treat the spine is widely recommended as the first choice for common back and neck problems worldwide. Most low back pain is mechanical in origin, meaning that an applied force caused the pain. The theory the McKenzie Method is that the reverse force will abolish the pain and restore function. The patient is encouraged to learn the principles, which empowers them to be in control of their own symptom management. This will also reduce dependency on medical intervention because it promotes the body's potential to heal itself. The long-term goal of the McKenzie Method is to reduce pain quickly, return the patient to normal function, minimize the risk of recurring pain, and prevent the pain from returning.
Most Physical Therapists have some familiarity with the McKenzie Method. However, a certified McKenzie clinician must undergo extensive, additional training, and have numerous clinical hours to qualify. At Trinity Rehab, we have certified McKenzie therapists ready to help you return to a full recovery.
