EPAT Shockwave Therapy: What Is It?
EPAT is a non-invasive procedure, meaning no needles, surgical tools, or anesthesia. This allows you to continue with your daily life uninterrupted while receiving the care you need. We understand that your comfort and well-being are paramount, which is why we're committed to patient-focused care throughout your treatment journey.
Do You Need EPAT?
Before beginning any treatment, your therapist will review your health background to ensure we properly treat your condition(s). We’ll walk you through a personalized treatment plan to assist in providing long-term relief and to align with your long-term therapy goals.
It’s important to know that while beneficial for most patients, EPAT is best suited for those experiencing specific types of pain or discomfort. Common diagnoses include shoulder and hip tendinitis, plantar fasciitis, lower back and neck pain, and more.
This is also a good option for patients who may have had difficulty finding relief through other treatments—like cold and heat therapy or braces. Unlike other traditional treatments, EPAT offers quick and sustained relief.
What’s an EPAT Session Like?
Typically, EPAT sessionsEPAT Shockwave Therapy in PA are no more than five to 10 minutes. This makes it easy to fit an appointment into your schedule, whether that’s during a busy workday or amid a crowded weekend with friends or family.
Before undergoing treatment, your therapist will apply a coupling gel to the treatment area. The gel is then moved in a circular motion over your skin to help send acoustic pressure waves into your tissues. This is a comfortable process, but you should always let your therapist know if you experience any discomfort or pain.
Once the session is complete, the remaining gel will be cleaned, and you’re free to resume your daily activities. EPAT is done once a week, and you can complete each session by yourself or with your physical therapist by your side.
Your therapist will determine if EPAT is right for you based on your individual needs and goals during your initial consultation.
